Compress video: key facts
Framekit compresses compatible videos using quality presets, CRF and an output-resolution cap. It creates an MP4 locally and reports the actual original and output sizes instead of promising a fixed reduction.
- Output
- MP4: H.264 video; AAC audio when present
- Key settings
- Low / Medium / High presets; smaller output is not guaranteed
- Input size limit
- 250.0 MB per file
- Processing
- Local browser processing; no video upload; no account
Details checked . File size limits are not a guarantee of sufficient device memory.
A practical guide
Reduce video file size with visible trade-offs
Use the video compressor when a recording is inconvenient to share or store. A quality preset and maximum output height let you balance detail, resolution and size. The result is a new MP4, so you can keep the original as your higher-quality copy.
How to compress a video online
- Choose one video and review the source size and available preview. A short trim can help if the source includes material you do not need.
- Start with Medium compression, then select a maximum resolution or keep the original. Lower CRF values retain more detail and usually increase size; higher values generally sacrifice detail for smaller output.
- Select Compress this video. After processing, compare Original size, Actual size and Output / original. Preview the result before downloading and deciding whether the settings suit your footage.
Output format and quality
The compressor encodes H.264 video and AAC audio in an MP4 container. Resolution options cap the output height without deliberately enlarging a smaller source. The output is not guaranteed to be smaller, especially when the input was already efficiently encoded.
File size and browser limits
Each input is limited to 250.0 MB. Size is checked before processing starts. These limits do not guarantee that every smaller file will fit your device’s available memory.
Long or high-resolution footage can need significant time and memory. Use shorter clips or smaller inputs if the browser cannot finish. The source stays on your device; processing loads the local engine only when needed. Read the format and processing FAQ and privacy policy for the limits and temporary data handling.
