Convert video: key facts

Framekit converts compatible video sources into real MP4 or WebM files by encoding in the browser. MOV, MKV and AVI depend on their internal codecs; an unsupported source produces an error rather than a renamed file.

Output
MP4: H.264/AAC; WebM: VP8/Opus
Key settings
Audio included only when a source track exists; codec support varies
Input size limit
250.0 MB per file
Processing
Local browser processing; no video upload; no account

A practical guide

Convert MP4 and WebM with real encoding

Change a compatible source to MP4 or WebM for a different playback or sharing workflow. Framekit performs local encoding; it does not rename the extension and claim that conversion succeeded. Preview support and processing support can differ.

How to convert a video online

  1. Choose your source file. MP4 and WebM are common inputs; MOV, MKV and AVI can also be tried when their internal codecs are supported by the local engine.
  2. Choose MP4 or WebM as the destination. This selects the actual output container and encoders, not just a filename suffix.
  3. Select Convert this video. Wait for encoding and output validation. Download the result and check playback in the application or device where you intend to use it.

Output format and quality

MP4 uses H.264 video with AAC audio where present. WebM uses VP8 video with Opus audio where present. Sources without audio remain silent. Unsupported or damaged media produces an error instead of a renamed download; compatibility with every codec or browser is not guaranteed.

File size and browser limits

Each input is limited to 250.0 MB. Size is checked before processing starts. These limits do not guarantee that every smaller file will fit your device’s available memory.

Long or high-resolution footage can need significant time and memory. Use shorter clips or smaller inputs if the browser cannot finish. The source stays on your device; processing loads the local engine only when needed. Read the format and processing FAQ and privacy policy for the limits and temporary data handling.
